About the Instructors
John BaynesJohn Baynes, an English teacher at Our Lady of Mercy High School, has worked as a consultant preparing students for the PSAT/SAT/ACT for more than 30 years. John has been a teacher of Advanced Placement English to 11th and 12th graders and was recognized as the Fairport Central Schools Phoebe Hearst Teacher of the Year and as the FHS Crystal Apple Award winner. John was named the 2001 University of Rochester Distinguished Teacher for the Fairport Schools. John and his wife, Patricia, have three children, each a National Merit Scholarship Semi-finalist and a high school valedictorian. His younger daughter graduated from Harvard University, his older daughter graduated from Harvard Law School, and his son graduated from Yale University.

John SerafineJohn Serafine, Director of Student Counseling and College Advising at McQuaid Jesuit High School has over 30 years of college counseling experience. A graduate of St. Lawrence University, with experience as a college athlete and college basketball coach, John has an extensive network in the college admissions field and has presented numerous workshops on early college planning. In 2007, John was recognized as the Fairport High School Crystal Apple Award winner. John is co-director of the Upstate New York Basketball and Soccer Showcases, a member of the National Association of College Admissions Counselors, and the chairman of the Rochester National College Fair. John has four children. His older daughter graduated from the University of  New Hampshire, his older son graduated from St. John Fisher College, his younger daughter graduated from Siena College, and his younger son graduated from Hobart College.
